You’ll really enjoy both front and back porches. They are studies in loveliness and practicality. We made the porches deeper than the modern-day porch after researching porches with human proportions.
Bernard Rudofsky wrote about the perfect ‘outdoor room’ of a porch in “Behind the Picture Window” (1955), and later in the design and architecture classic, “A Pattern Language,” so did Alexander, Ishikawa, and Silverstein (1977). The reason why so many modern porches are unsatisfying is that they don’t accommodate people.
