In Case of Power Outages

Electrical Panel

We designed key areas of the farmhouse to run on the alternate power of a generator. Rather than using only two electrical panels for the upstairs and downstairs, we added a third to power the essentials.

In this image, Panels 1 (upstairs) and 2 (downstairs) are to the left. Panel 3, which can be connected to an outside generator, is open.

Panel 3 powers the Great Room (family and dining), west outside heater, mudroom and mudroom bath; south second floor heater; outside plug for generator; refrigerators, well, kitchen lights, and ovens. The gas cooktop is lit with a match in case of a power outage.

The generator is placed outside the mudroom window on the north side of the house, plugged into the 50 amp, 220 volt outside plug installed for this purpose, and powered on after turning off double breakers 19 and 21 in Panel 2.

Directions for this operation will be provided.
