Every Thanksgiving, the day before Thanksgiving, we’ve hosted a tradition we call “Pie Day” in this kitchen. I invite friends to bring their pie fixings, or whatever else they want to cook together, and we have a huge cooking party. The ovens bake; the cooktop simmers; people are rolling dough or using the mixer at the island. Children abound and run through the house, then tromp around on the land and look for “fairy forests” in the woods.
This kitchen invites all kinds of community. Put on some music, have your friends bring their music, and pipe that stuff through the in-ceiling speakers and surround yourself with love, food, and music.
Oh–and don’t forget the wine.
